Situated on the right bank of the Dordogne river, 4 km from Carlux, Simeyrols forms part of the  Community of communes  « Pays de Fénelon ».

Its name is said to come from  the old Occitan word « Cimier » and from the suffix  « iol » (in the plural form). Simeyrols therefore means little rows  of hilltops

The village was most likely built around its magnificent  Romanesque  church, dating back to the 12th Century and with a wood-panelled nave.

The choir area, which also dates back to the 12th Century, is decorated with wooden statues, depicting Cosmas and Damien, Christian physicians of Arab origin, who were martyred under Diocletian. They are the patron saints of surgeons and of the commune of Simeyrols. The door is 13th century.  The church was  re-vaulted in the 16th century. The wall belfry was built in the 18th century.

The former lignite mines, to the north of the village, were actively exploited from the start of the industrial era (1860) up until the early 1950’s

The upper part of the charming village of Simeyrols  looks out over  wooded hills and fertile plains.

Its inhabitants are known as  : Simeyrolais (m)  or Simeyrolaises  (f)
